About me

The nature of how music surrounds and enfolds me is what drives my approach to painting.

Total immersion and the meditative rhythm of mark making happens when I respond to music. This way of working stems from my synaesthesia, where even a single bar of music can fuel hours worth of colour and shape, using organic forms and un-primed, uneven canvas pieces. Familiar but unexplained motifs appear again and again.

I am currently exploring the sea as a stimulus, using the sound of the sea and the solitude whilst immersing myself in the Cornish coastline, often adding music to this experience. The solitary existence of being beside the sea seems to mimic being in the studio with my music.

Synaesthesia- " a production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body" ( as defined by Oxford Dictionary).
